SABMiller in Licensing Deal with Swedish Cider Co.

SABMiller plc and Kopparberg Brewery AB have entered into a cooperation agreement for the long term licensing of Kopparberg cider products in selected markets.

All Kopparberg cider products, including Pear and Naked Apple, will be available for distribution, and the cooperation will take place in various markets where Kopparberg does not have an existing interest.

The first SABMiller operation to sign an exclusive local distribution agreement is Australia, and others will follow in the coming months.

Kopparberg Brewery was founded in 1882 and owns one of Sweden’s best known cider brands. It distributes to over 40 countries worldwide, including the UK, Scandinavia, and Australia, and also produces water and beer products alongside its cider range.

Cider is one of the fastest growing beverage categories and this is just the latest deal in which a major brewer is putting substantial resources behind cider brands. SABMiller's and Molson Coors' MillerCoors JV acquired Crispin Cider last year and Anheuser-Busch InBev recently unveiled Stella Artois Cidre. Additionally, Heineken has been putting considerable effort behind its Strongbow brand
