SW&S Enhances Supply Chain Management Team

Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. announced that Mel Velez has recently been appointed vice president, demand planning and logistics. The company says Velez's addition to its supply chain management team will further enhance Southern’s ability to deliver excellence in service to its divisional and retail customers, as well as to continue to enhance and expand partnerships with its suppliers across the Southern enterprise.

Velez has 22 years of experience in a variety of leadership roles across various industries. He began his career in 1991 working as General Manager for AT&T Global Business Systems. Most recently, he worked at Citrix Systems, Inc. as group director of global procurement and accounts payable. While working at Citrix, Mel’s team was able to generate sustainable and meaningful savings and effectiveness.

Commenting on the appointment, Bobby Burg, senior vice president and chief supply chain officer says, “We have appointed Mel to our team as he brings many years of experience in procurement and is a demonstrated leader. For example, while at Tellabs, his team attained `Best in Class' status in six out of seven Supply Chain/Customer Service categories, while overseeing the Latin American Supply Chain business.”

Commenting on his appointment, Velez says, “I’m very excited and fortunate to be given this opportunity and look forward to working closely with our Supplier Partners and our Division Leadership to add greater value to the Supply Chain for the benefit of all.”
